Community Advisory Board

Members of the Community Advisory Board (CAB) represent a broad range of fifteen local community organizations, intentionally selected to ensure a range of perspectives and expertise on tobacco-related policy issues. The CAB meets monthly from September through June with the Policy Research Center team to provide guidance on Center activities and progress toward goals.

City Heights Community Development Corporation (CDC)

City Heights Community Development Corporation is a 501(c)3 non-profit committed to comprehensive community development through affordable housing and advocacy for the community. City Heights CDC brings over 23 years of serving the City Heights small business community with culturally competent, customized micro-enterprise business advising, grant-making, and access to capital.

City of San Diego – District 9

District 9 Council President Sean Elo-Rivera and the City Council strive to offer opportunity to District 9 residents and support their health, wellness, and safety.

Pacific Islander Collective San Diego

Pacific Islander Collective of San Diego uplifts the visibility of Native Hawaiians and Pacific Islanders through education, advocacy and research.

San Diego County Office of Education

The San Diego County Office of Education inspires and leads innovation in education. Its North Star goal over the next several years is to reduce the percentage of students qualifying for free or reduced lunch as part of a larger effort to elevate the needs of historically underserved students and families.

San Diego County Tobacco Control Resource Program

The Tobacco Control Resource Program (TCRP) is part of the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA), Public Health Services. The TCRP works with community partners across the county to reduce tobacco-related death and disability by:

  • Prevent tobacco use;
  • Stop secondhand smoke exposure; and
  • Sharing quitting Connecting people to resources to help them quit.

San Diego Housing Commission

The San Diego Housing Commission (SDHC) fosters social and economic stability for vulnerable populations in the City of San Diego through: Quality, affordable housing. Opportunities for financial self-reliance. Homelessness solutions.

San Diego Unified School District – TUPE Program

The Tobacco-Use Prevention Education (TUPE) Program, funded by the TUPE Grant, is designed to raise awareness about the harmful physical, social, and environmental effects of tobacco use among our youth population; in addition, information is provided to staff and parents in an effort to help students process the information that they learn so that supportive efforts can be continually reinforced and maintained in social and school settings, as well as within the family structure.

Sierra Club – Mother Lode Chapter

The Sierra Club Mother Lode encompass eleven local Sierra Club groups in twenty-four counties in Northern & Central California. The organization addresses environmental issues, such as protecting wildlife, preventing plastic pollution, and reducing human-caused damage to ecosystems.

Sierra Club – San Diego Chapter

The Sierra Club’s San Diego Chapter was founded in 1948 and has been instrumental in the community with it’s involvement in the Desert Protection Act, establishment of the Torrey Pines State Park, saving the Famosa Slough, stopping Desert Mining, protecting the La Jolla Seals and Sea Lions, preventing Jackson Drive from going through Mission Trails Park. In addition to it’s conservation efforts, the Sierra Club San Diego offers a variety of outdoor experiences for the community with a hiking section, bicycle section, wilderness basic course, photography club, cross-country ski section, and bus trips.

Somali Family Service of San Diego

Somali Family Service, guided by its community champions, empowers immigrants, refugees, and other underserved communities in San Diego through its programs that promote health, educational and economic success, and leadership development.

Surfrider Foundation – San Diego Chapter

The Surfrider Foundation is dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s ocean, waves, and beaches, for all people, through a powerful activist network.

United Women of East Africa

UWEAST’s mission is to provide culturally competent health services, education, and advocacy to enhance the well-being of the East African community. The organization’s primary focus is on addressing the substantial physical and mental health needs of East African refugee women and youth, with a special emphasis on the San Diego Community.

Vista Community Clinic Tobacco Control Program

The mission of the Vista Community Clinic is to advance community health and hope by providing access to premier health services and education for those who need it most. The VCC Tobacco Control Program works with North San Diego County community members and partners to promote smoke- and tobacco-free living through policy and initiatives aimed at reducing secondhand smoke exposure in homes and outdoor public areas, reducing youth access to tobacco and vape products, reducing tobacco product waste in the environment and connecting individuals to free quit smoking and vaping services.
