Community Partners Workgroup

Members of the Community Partner Workgroup are representatives of community organizations with an interest in working on tobacco-related policy in their local neighborhoods. CAB members are also members of the Community Partner Workgroup. The Workgroup attends quarterly workshops focused on policy issues related to tobacco and the environment and  participates in all phases of the research conducted by the Policy Research Center, from identification of research question, design and implementation of the study, and dissemination of results to policymakers.

City Heights Community Development Corporation (CDC)

City Heights Community Development Corporation is a 501(c)3 non-profit committed to comprehensive community development through affordable housing and advocacy for the community. City Heights CDC brings over 23 years of serving the City Heights small business community with culturally competent, customized micro-enterprise business advising, grant-making, and access to capital.

Asian Pacific Partners for Empowerment, Advocacy, and Leadership

The Statewide Pacific Islander Asian American Resource and Coordinating Center (SPARC) program, funded through the California Tobacco Prevention Program’s Statewide Coordinating Center grant, aims to foster interactive and integrative collaboration and communication among regional projects and others in the state working to reduce tobacco-related disparities among the diverse Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander (AA & NHPI) communities. SPARC is a part of Asian Pacific Partners for Empowerment, Advocacy, and Leadership (APPEAL).

Project AWARE

Project AWARE aims to educate at-risk youths and prepare them to take responsibility for their thoughts and actions.  By becoming emotionally literate, learning/developing basic social skills, and through self-examination, our young students will not only better themselves and their school environment, but also become productive members of society and establish themselves as community leaders. Project AWARE provides a healthy environment wherein students can safely process their feelings and learn how to effectively incorporate problem-solving skills that they’ve learned into their daily lives.

United Women of East Africa

UWEAST’s mission is to provide culturally competent health services, education, and advocacy to enhance the well-being of the East African community. The organization’s primary focus is on addressing the substantial physical and mental health needs of East African refugee women and youth, with a special emphasis on the San Diego Community.

SAY San Diego

SAY San Diego’s partnerships, youth programs and services address the comprehensive needs of the entire child, individual or family rather than focusing on one symptom or about a specific problem. SAY engages the San Diego community to work collaboratively and partners with organizations such as schools, community coalitions, and local government to create positive change. SAY San Diego’s holistic approach enriches youth, empowers individuals and families, and engages communities.

Sierra Club – San Diego Chapter

The Sierra Club’s San Diego Chapter was founded in 1948 and has been instrumental in the community with it’s involvement in the Desert Protection Act, establishment of the Torrey Pines State Park, saving the Famosa Slough, stopping Desert Mining, protecting the La Jolla Seals and Sea Lions, preventing Jackson Drive from going through Mission Trails Park. In addition to it’s conservation efforts, the Sierra Club San Diego offers a variety of outdoor experiences for the community with a hiking section, bicycle section, wilderness basic course, photography club, cross-country ski section, and bus trips.
