Meshate Mengistu, BS, has been a Program Manager at United Women of East Africa Support Team (UWEAST) for the past nine years. For the first four years of her tenure, she served as a Community Health Coordinator, a role that provided her with valuable insights into the specific needs and challenges of the community. Raised in San Diego, primarily in City Heights, Meshate’s personal experiences as an East African woman have deeply informed her work. She is passionate about addressing the systemic barriers faced by East African communities and advocating for those who may struggle to have their voices heard.

With a BS in Health Communication from San Diego State University, Meshate applies her expertise to manage and develop programs that support East African women. She oversees a range of activities, including event coordination, resource management, and partnership development. Her work is focused on empowering community members to become self-advocates for their families’ health, creating impactful opportunities for engagement, and ensuring that the programs effectively meet the needs of the community.
