Community Workshops

Workshops on the Road Series

The Policy Research Center for Tobacco and the Environment is excited to launch our new Workshops on the Road series! We invite you to bring one of our short, engaging presentations to your organization, community group, parent group, or youth group. Each workshop introduces an important tobacco and environmental health topic while connecting participants to community-driven research, resources, and practical tools. Presentations take approximately 20 minutes and are available in English or Spanish, either in person or via Zoom. Workshops are designed for adults and youth in middle or high school and can easily be incorporated into an existing meeting or gathering.

Fall 2026 Workshop Menu

Tobacco Product Waste 101: Learn what tobacco product waste is, how it impacts our environment and health, and what we can do to help reduce this pollution.
Thirdhand Smoke 101: Discover what thirdhand smoke is, where it is found, how it affects our health, and steps you can take to protect yourself, your family, and your friends.
Collect Data to Drive Change: Learn how to use the iKickButts smartphone app to document tobacco product waste in your community and help drive meaningful change.

Past Community Workshops

From 2024 to 2026, the Policy Research Center held quarterly tobacco policy community events to prepare community members to participate in the development, implementation, and dissemination of tobacco policy-related research projects in and around San Diego County.

Community members were invited to participate in quarterly community events alongside the Community Advisory Board and Policy Research Center to discuss tobacco policy-related topics, Rapid Response Projects, and ways to share tobacco policy information with communities throughout San Diego County.

Our upcoming Community Workshop – Community Experiences in Research will be held at the SAY San Diego Viewridge Community Room on April 22, 2026 from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm.

During this workshop, we will provide updates on our data collection efforts and highlight insights from both our research team and our community partners. All community members are encouraged to attend.
